to become invisible, one must be less than or equal to one pixel, 2015
Stoneware
The title comes from Hito Steyerl’s “How Not To Be Seen. A Fucking Didactic Educational .MOV File” (2013) where it’s explained that the smallest object that can be made out on google maps is roughly 12″x12″ due to the resolution of the cameras on the satellite. Now it’s more like 10″x10″ and these are the dimensions of this 'pixel'. The sides of the 'pixel' are finished with the portraits and names of missing people around the North East. The piece creates parallels between invisibility in two situations, the object is invisible on google maps and these people are now invisible.
